Sorry for my Absence!

July 30, 2010 1 comment

I’m sorry it’s been so long since my last post. I’ve been sort of preoccupied by a 6-day migraine, which resulted in an ER visit.

On top of that, Eddie has been deployed to Afghanistan, after settling into his new apartment in Bamberg, Germany. Fortunately, his battalion is scheduled to leave in November to return to Italy and Germany (where he’ll be until summer 2012).

I got Eddie’s birthday package in the mail on Tuesday. His requests:

-Those dehydrated, microwavable Chow Mein and Yakisoba noodle bowls.

- Pistachios and pistachio butter

And I threw some Nutella and fortune cookies, along with a birthday present for good measure. By the way, I still have yet to find pistachio butter. We’re going to Philadelphia to visit my BFF Miranda and so we’re stopping at Trader Joe’s to look for it.

That’s all for now. And did I mention, I almost CRIED in the post office? How sappy is that!

Weekend in Review

In less than an hour it will be my birthday and I’ll officially be 26. Despite the fact that I wanted to do absolutely nothing on my birthday, I’ve been kind of busy.

That is, if you don’t count sleeping 3 hours after work yesterday and sleeping in until 12 today.

So, by the time I had woken up and showered, Clint had gone to do volunteerwork (that I slept through) and gone for a 4 mile run.

I’ve been working on a crafty surprise (of which I can’t disclose the details right now) and I think I’ll impress my blogger friend Charlotte with how amazing it turns out.

So we had to run to AC Moore and Michaels for supplies, leaving 2 of my 50% off any one item coupons at work. Oh, and yesterday, we went and ordered the flowers for this crafty surprise.

After stopping at the pet store, we went to Walmart where we saw someone wearing a dress that Clint deemed a negligee and flip-flops. It was strapless, lowcut, I don’t think she was wearing a bra, and came half way up her thighs. And did I mention the fabric was so thin it was almost semi translucent? Or the fact that she kept bending over? Constantly, and from the waist?

(I don’t know about you, but when I’m wearing a skirt and I need to reach down, I always tuck the fabric under my knees and squat down. None of my skirts are shorter than knee length (because I only wear them for work or church), but I even do this when I wear a really long dress.)

Anyway, I got soooo distracted by this woman that I REALLY wanted a picture of her for People of Walmart.com. I know, I know, that’s really bad and all, but Clint and I were sort of circling Walmart trying to find her to get a picture on his iPhone. All I got was a blurry one with just her legs.

And did I mention we completely forgot toothpaste? Which was the real reason for the Walmart trip? Lol.

So now, tomorrow will be a trip to the drug store for toothpaste.

On the docket for tomorrow:

Clint’s also ushering at church. It’s my birthday. We need to go the grocery store. Assembling things with hot glue. Calling some people. And trying to Skype with Eddie in Germany.

We’ve also decided to share my birthday with Molly because we know she was born some time around now (we got her in March 2009 when she was 9 months old). And we might have a puppyversary for Moxie who we adopted in early July 2009. It’s actually quite fitting because Clint’s birthday is just a few days before Christmas so we can schedule a big event every 6 months!

Okay, I’m tired and I now realize this post doesn’t have much structure. But oh well!

Birthday Weekend

June 25, 2010 3 comments

I knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. I’m turning 26. I don’t know why this year’s birthday is getting me all anxious and whatnot. I mean it’s my BIRTHDAY! But it’s suddenly making me upset that I’m now closer to 30 than 20.  On top of that, I am now 8 years older than the incoming freshman!

I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with me. I was up thinking the other night that it’s been at least 5 years since I was at a TKE frat party. I’m actually looking forward to Homecoming this year to have the chance to hang out with my old (as in freshman and sophomore year friends) friends who I still talk to on Facebook.

I also think about what I had envisioned myself doing at this point in my life.

  • When I was 10, I wanted to be a teacher.
  • When I was 16, I wanted to be a school psychologist.
  • When I was 20, I was well on my way with my psych degree and looking at IUP to get a master’s degree in school psychology.

For all these years, I had been so busy focusing on academics and preparing for job. I dated little, but continued to look and pray for a Godly man. And then I met Clint. (Read how Clint and I met here–> Year #4.) And my entire world changed.

Of course, I did homework, studied, etc. I was still focused on my sorority. But I realized I didn’t have to be perfect. It was okay (at this point) if I got a B or even a C (!) on my final papers. I did the math just to check and, honestly, halfway through my final semester I could have stopped doing EVERYTHING and I still would have graduated magna cum laude.

I fell in love and everything was different. In the two years leading up to Clint’s graduation and our wedding, my goals for the future changed again. This time, they were more focused on family.

  • At 21, I put aside the idea of grad school temporarily and was happily enjoying graduating from college.
  • At 22, I didn’t know what I wanted. So I stuck around Williamsport and took 2 jobs to be with Clint.
  • At 23, Clint looked into joining the military through officer school. My future was whereever he would be.
  • At 24, we got married and settled more permanently in Williamsport. We were both at Lyco together working now and trying to plan for a baby by now (at 26).

Alas! God still has different plans for us. We don’t have kids (I wish I had 2 by now), I don’t have an MA or PhD. Clint’s not in the military.

But we are together. We have a house and 2 dogs. We have money saved. We even have some stocks.

… But I still hate getting old.
