Reflection: 175th Anniversary of the Relief Society

Established in 1842, the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a living, breathing reflection of our commitment to live a Christ-like life.

Relief Society engages the sisters of the church in active leadership, serving each other and our communities. We are not “Sunday” Christians; we live out our faith every day. Women in the LDS Church use Jesus Christ as our guide to grow closer to Heavenly Father, fulfill temporal needs, and ultimately seek eternal life.

Relief Society helps prepare women for the blessings of eternal life as they:

  • Increase faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and His Atonement;
  • Strengthen individuals, families, and homes through ordinances and covenants; and
  • Work in unity to help those in need.

I am so proud to be a member of this organization. It is hard to explain that, while women don’t hold the priesthood keys, women fulfill the needs of home, family, and the community in a way that men are not capable of.

To recognize the importance of womanhood to Heavenly Father, I am planning on studying different women in the scriptures for March’s reflections.
